# Eco-Friendly Disposal - Donate First, Landfill Last

Our AI routes every item through donation, recycling, and then disposal - working to maximize diversion from landfills.

## The Disposal Hierarchy

Upcycle Pickup follows a disposal hierarchy for every item collected. Landfill is treated as a last resort, not the default. Our AI disposal router evaluates each item and determines the destination.

- Route usable items to local reuse and donation outlets, or to a nonprofit you choose
- Match usable items with community members who need them
- Recycle materials at certified recycling facilities
- Responsible landfill disposal only when no other option exists

## Local Sacramento Routing

We route items to local Sacramento reuse and donation outlets, recycling centers, and community organizations. Our disposal routing database includes donation centers, material-specific recyclers, and specialty processors across the Sacramento region.

- Local outlets for household goods
- Furniture and building-material reuse outlets
- eWaste recycling facilities for electronics
- Textile recyclers for clothing and fabrics
- Specialty processors for mattresses, appliances, and hazardous materials

## Environmental Impact Tracking

Every job completed through Upcycle Pickup includes a diversion report. You can see where your items ended up - donated, recycled, or disposed. We track per-job diversion so you know where your items went.

- Per-job diversion report
- Item-level tracking shows where each piece went
- Cumulative environmental impact visible in your account

## Why Landfill Diversion Matters

Sacramento County landfills are reaching capacity. Every item diverted extends landfill life, reduces methane emissions, and keeps useful materials in circulation. Upcycle Pickup exists to make responsible disposal the easy choice, not the hard one.
