Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Upcycle Hub — Sacramento's AI-powered routing engine for the second-hand economy.

Getting Started

What is Upcycle App?

Upcycle Hub is Sacramento's AI-powered routing engine for the second-hand economy. We analyze your items, provide instant pricing, and route each item to its best next life — whether that's resale, donation, repair, upcycling, or recycling. Our goal is to divert 70% or more of collected items away from landfills.

How does Upcycle App work?

The process is simple: (1) Submit a quote request through our website with photos of your items. (2) Our AI analyzes the photos to identify items, estimate volume, and detect any hazardous materials. (3) You receive a transparent price quote within minutes. (4) Local, vetted hauling providers bid on your job. (5) We select the best provider and schedule your pickup. (6) On pickup day, your items are sorted for donation, recycling, or proper disposal.

What areas does Upcycle App serve?

We currently serve the greater Sacramento, California area including Elk Grove, Folsom, Roseville, Davis, Rancho Cordova, Citrus Heights, Rocklin, and surrounding communities. We are expanding to additional cities — check our website for the latest service area updates.

How do I get a quote for pickup?

Visit myupcyclehub.com/quote to start our AI-powered quote wizard. Upload photos of the items you want routed, answer a few questions about access and location, and receive an instant price estimate. The entire process takes about 5 minutes. No account required to get started.

How long does the entire process take from quote to pickup?

You can receive a quote in as little as 5 minutes after uploading photos. Once you approve the quote and pay, pickup is typically scheduled within 1-3 business days. Same-day pickup is available in many Sacramento neighborhoods for urgent requests.

Is there a minimum pickup size?

We do not have a strict minimum, but our service is most cost-effective for pickups of at least a few items (such as a piece of furniture plus some boxes). For a single small item, you may find it more economical to drop it off yourself — we can suggest nearby donation centers and recycling locations through our locations directory.

Do I need to be home during the pickup?

We prefer that someone over 18 is present during the pickup to confirm the items and sign off on the job. However, we can arrange contactless pickups if you leave items in an accessible location such as a driveway or garage. Just let us know during the booking process.

Pricing & Payment

How much does pickup cost with Upcycle Hub?

Pricing depends on the volume, weight, and type of items. A typical residential pickup in Sacramento ranges from $99 to $599. Our AI analyzes your photos to provide an accurate, transparent estimate. There are no hidden fees — the price you see in your quote is the price you pay.

How is pricing determined?

Our AI-powered pricing engine considers several factors: (1) Volume of items (measured in truck space). (2) Weight and type of materials. (3) Distance from your location to routing destinations. (4) Any special handling requirements (stairs, narrow access, hazardous materials). (5) Current market rates for pickup services in the Sacramento area. This data-driven approach ensures fair, consistent pricing.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. The quote you receive is the total price. We do not add fuel surcharges, environmental fees, or surprise charges on pickup day. If the actual job differs significantly from the photos you submitted (for example, there are substantially more items), your provider will discuss any adjustments with you before proceeding.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) processed securely through Stripe. Payment is collected online at the time of booking, so there is no need to handle cash or checks on pickup day.

When do I pay for the pickup service?

Payment is collected when you approve your quote and book the pickup. You pay upfront through our secure online payment system. This ensures your provider is confirmed and your pickup is scheduled immediately.

Do you offer free estimates before I commit?

Yes. Getting a quote through our website is completely free with no obligation. Upload your photos, review the AI-generated price estimate, and decide if you want to proceed. You are never charged until you explicitly approve the quote and book a pickup.

Can I get a refund if I cancel?

You can cancel your booking up to 24 hours before the scheduled pickup for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours of the scheduled pickup may be subject to a cancellation fee. Contact us at hello@myupcyclehub.com for any cancellation requests.

Items & Materials

What items does Upcycle App accept for removal?

We accept a wide range of household and commercial items including: furniture (sofas, tables, chairs, desks, dressers), appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves), electronics (TVs, computers, monitors, printers), mattresses and box springs, yard waste, construction debris, clothing and textiles, books, toys, sports equipment, and general household clutter.

What items can Upcycle App not take?

For safety and regulatory reasons, we cannot accept: hazardous chemicals, asbestos-containing materials, medical waste or sharps, ammunition or explosives, radioactive materials, and certain industrial waste. If you are unsure about a specific item, mention it in your quote request and our team will advise you.

Do you handle hazardous materials like paint or batteries?

We do not transport hazardous materials directly. However, we can guide you to the nearest household hazardous waste (HHW) facility in Sacramento through our disposal locations directory at upcyclepickup.com/locations. Sacramento County operates several HHW drop-off events and permanent collection sites for paint, batteries, chemicals, and electronics.

Can you remove large appliances like refrigerators and washing machines?

Yes. We regularly remove refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, and other large appliances. Our providers are equipped to handle heavy items and will disconnect appliances if needed (you should have water and gas lines shut off beforehand). Appliances are recycled whenever possible.

Do you take construction debris and demolition waste?

Yes, we handle light construction debris including drywall, lumber, flooring, tiles, and fixtures. For large-scale demolition projects, we may need to arrange a dedicated haul or dumpster rental. Describe the materials and quantity in your quote request for accurate pricing.

What about electronics and e-waste recycling?

We accept most consumer electronics including TVs, computers, laptops, monitors, printers, and small appliances. All e-waste is taken to certified recycling facilities that comply with California e-waste regulations. We never send electronics to landfills.

Can you remove hot tubs, sheds, or other large outdoor structures?

Yes, we can handle hot tub removal, shed demolition and removal, swing set disassembly, and other large outdoor items. These jobs typically require special pricing due to the labor involved — include photos and details in your quote request for an accurate estimate.

Donation & Recycling

Does Upcycle App donate items instead of sending them to the landfill?

Yes — donation is our first priority. Our AI-powered disposal routing system evaluates every item for donation potential. Items in usable condition are delivered to local Sacramento charities and thrift stores. We divert 70% or more of collected items away from landfills through a combination of donation, recycling, and material recovery.

How does the donation and recycling routing process work?

Our proprietary AI analyzes each item based on type, condition, and material composition. It then consults our database of over 100 local Sacramento disposal and donation locations to find the best destination. Reusable items go to charities. Recyclable materials go to certified recycling facilities. Only items that truly cannot be reused or recycled go to the landfill.

Which charities and organizations does Upcycle App work with in Sacramento?

We partner with a network of Sacramento-area organizations including Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, WEAVE, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, and various local churches and community organizations. The specific charity depends on the type of items and current intake capacity.

What percentage of items does Upcycle App divert from landfills?

We divert 70% or more of all collected items from landfills. This includes items donated to charities, materials sent to recycling facilities, and components recovered through specialized processing. Our AI routing system continuously improves this diversion rate by identifying new donation and recycling partners.

Can I get a tax receipt for items that are donated?

Yes. When your items are donated to a qualifying charitable organization, we can provide a donation receipt that you may use for tax deduction purposes. Let us know at the time of booking that you would like a receipt, and we will coordinate with the receiving charity to document the donation.

How does the AI decide what gets donated versus recycled versus disposed?

Our AI disposal router uses a priority hierarchy: (1) Donation — items in good, usable condition go to local charities. (2) Resale — items with significant value may be directed to thrift stores or consignment. (3) Recycling — materials like metals, plastics, textiles, and electronics go to certified recyclers. (4) Material recovery — mixed materials are processed to extract recyclable components. (5) Landfill — only as a last resort when no other option exists.

Can I specify where I want my items donated?

Yes. If you have a preferred charity or organization, let us know in your quote request. We will do our best to accommodate your preference, provided the organization accepts the type of items you are donating and has capacity at the time of pickup.

Winning providers receive the full job details and customer contact information.

Scheduling & Logistics

How far in advance do I need to book a pickup?

We recommend booking at least 24-48 hours in advance for standard pickups. Same-day pickup is available in many Sacramento neighborhoods, subject to provider availability. For large jobs or time-sensitive needs, book as early as possible to secure your preferred date.

Can I reschedule my pickup?

Yes. You can reschedule your pickup through your customer dashboard or by contacting us at hello@upcyclepickup.com. We ask for at least 24 hours notice to rearrange the schedule. There is no fee for rescheduling.

What happens on pickup day?

On pickup day, your assigned provider will arrive during the scheduled window. They will confirm the items to be removed, load everything onto their vehicle, and clean up the area. You (or a designated adult) sign off on the completed job. Your provider then routes the items to the appropriate donation, recycling, or disposal destinations based on our AI routing system.

Do you offer commercial and office cleanout services?

Yes. We handle commercial cleanouts including office furniture removal, equipment disposal, warehouse clearing, and retail store cleanouts. Commercial jobs may require a site visit or detailed photos for accurate quoting. Contact us at hello@upcyclepickup.com for commercial inquiries.

What if I have items on a second floor or in a basement?

Our providers handle stairs, basements, and upper floors regularly. If your items require significant stair navigation or special access considerations, mention this in your quote request. There may be a small additional charge for jobs involving many flights of stairs or difficult access.
